Assessments
In order to determine your child's current level of functioning and needs, the BCBA will come to your home to observe your child and conduct an assessment, such as the VB-MAPP, ABLLS-R, AFLS, or EFL. A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) may also be conducted to determine the function of any problem behaviors. Once the assessment is completed, an individualized treatment plan with be created for your child.
Direct 1 to 1 Therapy
Once a treatment plan has been formulated, an ABA therapist will work one-on-one with your child to implement interventions that will teach your child new skills, while decreasing problematic behaviors. Sessions will take place at your home or your child's preschool/daycare, as well as any community locations which are desired. The ABA therapist working with your child will receive close supervision and training from a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). While many agencies limit supervision to just 10% or less of direct therapy, we promote and encourage 20% supervision of direct therapy by a BCBA, as this is a recommendation from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
Parent/Family Training
In addition to direct therapy, a BCBA will provide training to you on the principles of ABA. You will learn strategies to help decrease problem behaviors while increasing skills and appropriate behaviors.
